Tally counter

Counters and their totals are kept in this browser, so they survive a reload and a closed tab. They never reach us.

About the Tally Counter

Tally Counter keeps several counters at once, each with its own name and its own step size. One counter is rarely enough: the moment somebody counts anything real they need a second one to count against it — stock in and stock out, cars and lorries, yes and no, people in and people out.

Totals are saved in this browser as they change, so closing the tab halfway through a count does not lose it. That is the difference between a counter you can trust with a real job and one you have to babysit. The totals belong to this browser on this device and are never sent anywhere, so they are gone if you clear site data, and they will not appear on another device.

Each counter has its own step, which is what makes it useful beyond counting by one. Set it to five for a stocktake in boxes of five, or to twelve for dozens, and every press adds that amount. The counters can be renamed to whatever you are actually counting, which matters more than it sounds when you come back to three counters an hour later.

Frequently asked questions

Will my count survive closing the tab?

Yes, in this browser on this device. Totals are written to the browser's own storage as they change.

Can I count in steps other than one?

Yes. Each counter has its own step, so one can count in ones while another counts in dozens.

How many counters can I have?

Eight on one page, which is as many as stays readable. Each has its own name, total and step.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, yes. Everything runs in the browser, so losing the connection does not stop the count.

Is the count private?

It never leaves your browser. Anyone with access to this browser profile can see it, so it is not a secure store.
