Privacy policy

What this site collects, what it does not, and what the advertising means for you.

Last updated: 2026-10-14

This policy explains what FreeToolStation collects, what it does not, and what the advertising on the site means for you. It is written to be read rather than to be skimmed past, and it describes what the site actually does.

The short version: the tools themselves do not send your data anywhere. The server keeps ordinary request logs. Advertising, when it is running, is served by Google and involves cookies set by Google rather than by us. Everything below is the detail behind those three sentences.

Who is responsible

FreeToolStation is operated as an independent website. For anything in this policy, including a request to exercise one of the rights listed further down, write to hello@freetoolstation.org. We aim to reply within a few working days.

What the tools do with your data

All 330 tools run inside your browser. The text you paste, the files you choose, the numbers you enter and the results you get are processed by JavaScript on your own device. They are not uploaded, not logged and not seen by us, because they never reach a server at all. You can confirm this: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and use any tool. No request carries your input.

  • Text tools — what you type stays in the page.
  • Image tools — the picture is read from your device, drawn on a canvas and read back out. It is never transmitted, so there is no upload wait and nothing of yours sits on anyone else's disk afterwards.
  • Password and random generators — values come from your browser's cryptographic random number generator. They are never stored or sent, and they are gone when you close the tab.
  • Hashes, encoders and formatters — computed locally. The JSON tools use your browser's own parser and never evaluate input as code.
  • The HTML analysis tools — these read markup you paste. A browser is not permitted to fetch another website and read the response, which is why they ask you to paste rather than offering to crawl. Nothing you paste leaves the page.

What is stored on your device

The site uses your browser's local storage for one thing: whether you chose the light or dark theme, saved under the key ftw-theme. It holds no personal information. Clear it at any time through your browser's site-data settings.

We set no cookies of our own, for tracking, analytics or any other purpose. Cookies that do appear are set by Google's advertising systems, described below.

Server logs

The server that delivers these pages records standard request information: the IP address making the request, the page asked for, the time, the browser's user-agent string and the referring page. This is the ordinary operation of a web server. It is used to keep the site running, to find errors and to understand which tools people use. It is never combined with anything you type into a tool, because that input never reaches the server. Logs are kept for a limited period and then discarded.

Advertising and third-party cookies

This site carries advertising in clearly marked areas. What follows is the disclosure Google requires of sites in its advertising programmes, and it applies whenever those ads are running.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or to other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings.
  • You can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices, or for vendors in Europe at youronlinechoices.eu.
  • Google's own description of how it uses data from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Opting out of personalised ads does not remove advertising. It means the ads you see are chosen without using a profile built from your browsing.

We do not control what an advertising network collects, and we cannot see it. What we can tell you is what we do not do: we do not pass anything you type into a tool to any advertiser, because we never have it. See the cookie policy for the detail on each category of cookie, and the advertising disclosure for how the site is funded.

Consent, where it is required

A consent message appears at the foot of the page on your first visit, and you choose whether to allow personalised advertising. Your choice is remembered on your own device and can be changed at any time with the Cookie settings link in the site footer. Until you choose, and if you decline, advertising is requested as non-personalised: nothing about your browsing elsewhere is used to select it. Google may still set a cookie in that mode to cap how often you see the same advert and to detect click fraud, which is why this page describes the choice as one about personalisation rather than about cookies existing at all.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you have some or all of the following rights over personal data a site holds about you. Because the only personal data this site holds is in server logs, most requests will be short to answer, but the rights stand and we will honour them:

  • Access — ask what is held about you.
  • Rectification — ask for something inaccurate to be corrected.
  • Erasure — ask for it to be deleted.
  • Restriction and objection — ask us to stop a particular use.
  • Portability — ask for a copy in a machine-readable form.
  • Withdraw consent — where processing rests on consent, take it back, without affecting what was lawful before.
  • Complain — raise it with your national data protection authority.

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what categories of personal information are collected and for what purpose, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. This site does not sell personal information. To exercise any of these, write to hello@freetoolstation.org.

Legal basis for processing

Where the UK or EU General Data Protection Regulation applies: server logs are processed on the basis of legitimate interests, specifically keeping the site available and secure. Advertising cookies are processed on the basis of your consent, which is why the consent message exists. The theme preference is not personal data and is stored on your device, not ours.

Links to other sites

Some pages link to other websites, and advertising may link anywhere. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we neither control nor endorse. This policy covers only FreeToolStation.

Children

This site is a general-purpose set of utilities. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, write to hello@freetoolstation.org and it will be deleted.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Because the tools keep your data on your own device, the most effective protection is structural: there is no database of user input to breach, because there is no user input on our side at all.

Changes to this policy

If the way the site handles data changes, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it. A material change will be described here rather than quietly edited in.
