Word Counter
Live word, character, sentence and paragraph counts with a reading-time estimate.
A plain text pad that saves itself in your browser as you type.
The note is kept in this browser's own storage. It survives closing the tab and reopening the page, it is not sent to us, and it is gone if you clear site data or use a private window.
Online Notepad is a plain text pad that saves itself as you type. There is no account, no sign-up and no document to name. Open the page, write, close the tab, and the note is there when you come back.
The note is stored in this browser's own storage rather than on a server. That is the whole reason to use a page like this instead of a document somebody else is holding: nothing you write is transmitted, so nothing can be read, scanned or lost in somebody else's outage. The trade is that the note belongs to this browser on this device. Clearing site data removes it, a private window will not keep it, and it will not appear on your phone. The download button is there for when you want a copy that outlives the browser.
Word count, character count and reading time update as you write, because a note is often being written to a length. The reading time uses 238 words a minute, which is the research figure for adult silent reading of ordinary prose.
Looking for something this does not cover? FreeToolsZone.org is more free browser-based tools, organised by job, and it is worth a look if online notepad is only part of what you are working on.
The online notepad is used by writers, developers, students, marketers and anyone else who needs the job done once without installing software. Common cases include:
It never leaves your browser. There is no upload and no server copy, so nobody at this site can read it. Anybody with access to this browser profile can, so it is not a place for passwords or anything sensitive.
Yes, in this browser on this device, as long as you do not clear site data. It will not appear in another browser or on another device.
The pad works, but the browser discards the storage when the window closes. The page says so rather than letting you find out afterwards.
Browser storage is usually a few megabytes, which is hundreds of thousands of words. For anything that long, download a copy rather than relying on the browser.
No. It is deliberately plain text, which is what makes it useful for stripping formatting out of something pasted in.
Download it as a .txt file, or copy it and paste it where you need it. There is no sync, because there is no account.
