CPA Calculator works out what each customer or conversion cost to acquire, and compares it with what that customer is worth. The cost half is a division; the useful half is the break-even CPA, which is the gross profit on one customer and therefore the most you can pay for them before the first sale loses money.
Gross margin is why revenue per customer is not the right comparison. A customer who spends 120 at a 45 per cent margin leaves 54 of gross profit, so a CPA of 60 is a loss even though the revenue is twice that. Plenty of campaigns are reported as successful on a revenue comparison that would fail on a margin one.
A CPA above break-even is not automatically wrong. If customers buy repeatedly, paying more than the first sale's profit can be the right call, and the lifetime value calculator is the one that tells you how much more. What matters is that the decision is made knowingly rather than by comparing against the wrong number.
This is arithmetic, not financial advice. It tells you what the numbers do; it cannot tell you whether a decision is right for your circumstances. Fees, taxes and local rules vary, so check anything that matters against the actual offer and speak to someone qualified before committing.
Everything is worked out inside your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded, logged or stored, which matters for the financial calculators in particular: the figures you put into them are nobody else's business.
Looking for something this does not cover? FreeToolsHub.org is another hub of free online tools that need no account, and it is worth a look if cpa calculator is only part of what you are working on.
The cpa calculator is used by writers, developers, students, marketers and anyone else who needs the job done once without installing software. Common cases include:
Close. CAC usually includes all sales and marketing costs, not just the ad spend. Put the wider figure in the spend field to get CAC instead.
Margin. Revenue includes the cost of delivering the product, which is money you never had.
When customers come back. If the average customer buys three times, the lifetime profit is what the CPA has to beat, not the profit on one sale.
