Churn Rate Calculator works out the share of customers lost in a period, the retention rate that is its mirror image, and the average customer lifetime the rate implies. It also annualises the figure, which is where most churn conversations go wrong.
Annualising churn is not multiplying by twelve. Retention compounds: keeping 94 per cent of customers each month means keeping 0.94 to the twelfth power over a year, which is about 48 per cent, so annual churn is 52 per cent rather than 72. Quoting a monthly rate as though it were annual, or multiplying it up, both produce badly wrong numbers.
Average lifetime is the reciprocal of the churn rate, and it is the bridge to customer lifetime value. Six per cent monthly churn implies an average stay of about 17 months. Halving churn doubles that, which is why retention work usually beats acquisition work on the same budget.
This is arithmetic, not financial advice. It tells you what the numbers do; it cannot tell you whether a decision is right for your circumstances. Fees, taxes and local rules vary, so check anything that matters against the actual offer and speak to someone qualified before committing.
Everything is worked out inside your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded, logged or stored, which matters for the financial calculators in particular: the figures you put into them are nobody else's business.
The churn rate calculator is used by writers, developers, students, marketers and anyone else who needs the job done once without installing software. Common cases include:
Compound the retention rate: one minus (retention to the power twelve). Multiplying monthly churn by twelve overstates it badly at higher rates.
Customer churn counts accounts; revenue churn counts money. Losing small accounts and keeping large ones gives high customer churn and low revenue churn.
No. Churn measures what happened to the customers you started with, so the denominator is the opening count. Including new arrivals flatters the rate.
