There is no single correct CGPA-to-percentage formula. Universities publish their own, and the CBSE 9.5 multiplier applies only to a 10-point scale. Always use the formula in your own institution's rules when it matters, for instance on a job application.

About the CGPA to Percentage Calculator

CGPA to Percentage Calculator converts a cumulative grade point average into a percentage and back again, on a 10, 5 or 4-point scale. It exists because almost every job application and postgraduate form asks for a percentage while almost every Indian transcript reports a CGPA, and the conversion is not a single agreed formula.

Three conversions are offered. The CBSE multiplier of 9.5 is the best known: it applies to the 10-point scale and comes from the average of the five subject percentage bands. A straight proportion -- CGPA divided by the scale maximum, times 100 -- is what most universities outside that system use, and it is the only one that makes sense on a 4 or 5-point scale. The custom option takes whatever multiplier your own institution publishes.

The difference between them is not small. A CGPA of 8.4 is 79.8% under the 9.5 multiplier and 84% under a straight proportion, which can cross an eligibility threshold. When the figure matters, use the formula printed in your university's own regulations and say which one you used; the conversion table here shows the whole scale so you can see the shape of it.

The page shows its working, not just its answer. Where there is a formula it is printed with your own numbers substituted in, so you can check the result rather than take it on trust -- which is the difference between a calculator you can use for something that matters and one you cannot.

Everything runs inside your browser. What you type is never uploaded, never logged and never stored, and the calculator keeps working if your connection drops after the page has loaded.

Frequently asked questions

Why multiply CGPA by 9.5?

It is the CBSE rule for the 10-point scale, derived from the average percentage of the five subject bands. It only applies to that scale.

Which formula should I use?

The one your own institution publishes. If it publishes none, the straight proportion is the safer default, and you should say which you used.

Can I convert a 4-point GPA this way?

Yes, with the straight proportion or a custom multiplier. The 9.5 multiplier is not valid on a 4-point scale and is refused.

Is CGPA the same as GPA?

GPA usually covers one term; CGPA is the cumulative figure across all terms. The conversion arithmetic is identical.
