This is arithmetic to help you work out a figure, not a religious ruling. Scholars differ on which assets are zakatable, how to treat pensions and long-term debts, and whether to use the gold or silver nisab. Ask someone qualified about anything you are unsure of.

About the Zakat Calculator

Zakat Calculator adds up the assets zakat is normally payable on, subtracts the debts you owe, and applies the rate -- conventionally two and a half per cent of net wealth held for a lunar year. The itemised table is as important as the total, because it shows exactly which holdings the figure came from, which is what you need if you want to check it with someone.

Gold and silver are entered at current market value rather than purchase price, since that is the basis zakat uses. The nisab threshold is optional and left blank by default because its cash value depends on today's metal price where you are: it is the value of 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver, and the two give very different thresholds, which is itself a point scholars differ on.

Debts are the part most often got wrong in both directions. Amounts you must pay now are deducted; a whole long-term mortgage is generally not, since only the instalments falling due are immediate obligations. Treatments differ, which is why the field is yours to fill rather than something this page decides for you.

This is arithmetic, not financial advice. It tells you what the numbers do; it cannot tell you whether a decision is right for your circumstances. Fees, taxes and local rules vary, so check anything that matters against the actual offer and speak to someone qualified before committing.

Everything is worked out inside your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded, logged or stored, which matters for the financial calculators in particular: the figures you put into them are nobody else's business.

Frequently asked questions

What is the zakat rate?

Two and a half per cent of net zakatable wealth held for a full lunar year, which is the default here. Different rates apply to agricultural produce and livestock, which this page does not cover.

What is nisab?

The minimum wealth at which zakat becomes due, defined as the value of 87.48g of gold or 612.36g of silver. The silver standard gives a lower threshold, so more people qualify; both are used, and the field takes whichever figure you follow.

Should I deduct my mortgage?

Generally only the instalments due, not the whole outstanding balance. Opinions differ, so ask someone qualified rather than relying on a calculator default.
