Leave a day blank if you did not work it. A finish time earlier than the start is treated as the next day, so a night shift totals correctly.

Gross pay, before tax and any other deduction. Those depend on your country and circumstances, and guessing at them would be worse than leaving them out.

About the Work Hours Calculator

Work Hours Calculator totals a week's timesheet: start and finish for each day, breaks deducted, with the weekly hours, any overtime and the gross pay worked out from them.

Three things make this error-prone by hand and all three are handled here. Time is base sixty, so the carries happen at sixty rather than a hundred. Shifts cross midnight, and the gap from 21:00 to 05:30 is eight and a half hours rather than a negative number. And payroll wants decimal hours, so 7 hours 20 minutes has to become 7.33 rather than 7.20, which is the single most common timesheet mistake and always in the employer's favour.

Breaks are deducted per day rather than as one weekly figure, because unpaid break length varies with shift length in most arrangements. Enter the minutes for each day and the daily total reflects them.

Overtime is calculated against a threshold you set, with its own multiplier, since the rules differ by country and by contract. The default is over forty hours at one and a half times, but both are editable. The result is a breakdown of ordinary hours, overtime hours and the pay for each, which is what you need in order to check a payslip line by line.

This is arithmetic, not financial advice. It tells you what the numbers do; it cannot tell you whether a decision is right for your circumstances. For anything that matters, check the figures against the actual offer and talk to someone qualified.

Everything is worked out inside your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded, logged or stored, which matters for the financial calculators in particular: the figures you put into them are nobody else's business.

Frequently asked questions

Does it handle night shifts?

Yes. A finish time earlier than the start is treated as the next day, so 21:00 to 05:30 is 8 hours 30 minutes.

Why is my decimal total not what I expected?

Minutes are sixtieths, not hundredths. 7 hours 20 minutes is 7.33 decimal hours, not 7.20. That difference is why the decimal figure is shown separately.

Is the gross pay after tax?

No, it is gross. Tax, national insurance and other deductions depend on your country and circumstances, and guessing at them would be worse than leaving them out.

Can I save a week and come back to it?

The page keeps nothing after you close it, by design. Use the download button to keep a copy of the timesheet.
