Trip Cost Calculator works out what a journey costs in fuel, adds tolls and anything else, and splits the total between the people travelling. Fuel economy can be entered in litres per 100 km, either kind of miles per gallon, or kilometres per litre, so the figure your car reports can be used directly.
The cost per kilometre is the number worth noting, because it makes journeys comparable. It also makes the case for sharing obvious: the fuel cost of a car is almost entirely independent of how many people are in it, so four people sharing travel at a quarter of the cost each.
What this does not include is the cost of running the car rather than driving it: depreciation, servicing, tyres and insurance. Those are real and roughly double the per-kilometre cost of most cars, which is why reimbursement rates are far above the fuel cost alone.
The page shows its working, not just its answer. Where there is a formula it is printed with your own numbers substituted in, so you can check the result rather than take it on trust -- which is the difference between a calculator you can use for something that matters and one you cannot.
Everything runs inside your browser. What you type is never uploaded, never logged and never stored, and the calculator keeps working if your connection drops after the page has loaded.

The trip cost calculator is used by writers, developers, students, marketers and anyone else who needs the job done once without installing software. Common cases include:
No, only fuel and the costs you enter. Depreciation, servicing, tyres and insurance roughly double the true cost per kilometre, which is why mileage rates are higher than fuel cost.
Whatever your car reports, in the matching unit. Real-world consumption is usually ten to twenty per cent worse than the official figure.
Tick the return option and the distance is doubled. Tolls and other costs are taken as entered, so enter the total for the whole trip.
