Waist to Hip Ratio Calculator divides your waist measurement by your hip measurement and places the result in the World Health Organization's risk bands. It also gives the waist-to-height ratio, which many researchers now consider the better single indicator of the two.
What both ratios capture that weight does not is where fat is carried. Visceral fat around the abdomen sits among the organs and is associated with more metabolic risk than the same amount of fat on the hips and thighs. Two people of identical weight and BMI can differ substantially on this measure.
The waist-to-height rule is the easiest health guideline there is: keep your waist under half your height. It needs no tables, applies to adults of both sexes and most ethnicities, and can be checked with a piece of string folded in half.
This is general information and not medical advice. The formula cannot know your medical history, your medication, your body composition or anything else specific to you. Speak to a doctor or another qualified professional about any question concerning your health, and never delay seeking advice because of a figure on this page.
Your measurements are processed inside your own browser. Height, weight, age and anything else you enter never leave your device, nothing is logged, and nothing survives closing the tab.

Waist to height is simpler, needs no hip measurement and performs at least as well in research. The half-your-height rule is the version worth remembering.
It is associated with higher risk across populations, which is not the same as a prediction about an individual. Treat it as one indicator among several.
