Volume Converter covers metric, US customary and imperial units together, which is necessary because the last two disagree. An imperial gallon is 4.546 litres and a US gallon is 3.785, a twenty per cent difference, and the same split runs through pints and fluid ounces.
That makes a recipe or a fuel figure ambiguous unless you know which system it came from. A pint of beer in London is 568 ml; in New York it is 473. An imperial fluid ounce is 28.41 ml and a US one is 29.57 -- the only case where the imperial unit is the smaller of the two, because the two systems defined their ounces against different gallons.
The cubic units are in the same table because volume is volume: a litre is exactly a cubic decimetre, a cubic metre is a thousand litres, and a cubic centimetre is a millilitre. That last equivalence is why engine sizes are quoted in cc and in litres interchangeably.
The page shows its working, not just its answer. Where there is a formula it is printed with your own numbers substituted in, so you can check the result rather than take it on trust -- which is the difference between a calculator you can use for something that matters and one you cannot.
Everything runs inside your browser. What you type is never uploaded, never logged and never stored, and the calculator keeps working if your connection drops after the page has loaded.
Looking for something this does not cover? FreeToolStation.com is a second collection of the same kind of everyday tools, and it is worth a look if volume converter is only part of what you are working on.
The volume converter is used by writers, developers, students, marketers and anyone else who needs the job done once without installing software. Common cases include:
The US gallon (3.785 L) for anything American, the imperial gallon (4.546 L) for older British and Commonwealth figures. They differ by about twenty per cent.
Because the two systems defined their gallons differently and then divided them into different numbers of ounces. A US fluid ounce is 29.57 ml, an imperial one 28.41.
Yes, exactly. A litre is a cubic decimetre, so a millilitre is a cubic centimetre, which is why engine capacities appear in both.
