Dividend Yield Calculator turns a dividend and a price into the three figures that matter: the yield, the cash income a holding produces, and the yield measured against what you actually paid. The first is a property of the share today; the last is a property of your position, and for a long-held holding it is usually much higher.
Yield on cost is the one worth understanding. If you bought at 95 and the dividend has grown to 4.80, your income is 5.05 per cent of your money even though the share now yields 4 per cent to a new buyer. That gap is the whole case for dividend growth investing, and it only appears if you keep track of what you paid.
The projection applies a growth rate to the dividend, not to the price, which is the right way round: a company that raises its dividend steadily produces a rising income regardless of what the share price does in the meantime. It is an illustration rather than a forecast, since dividends are not contractual and can be cut.
This is arithmetic, not financial advice. It tells you what the numbers do; it cannot tell you whether a decision is right for your circumstances. Fees, taxes and local rules vary, so check anything that matters against the actual offer and speak to someone qualified before committing.
Everything is worked out inside your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded, logged or stored, which matters for the financial calculators in particular: the figures you put into them are nobody else's business.
The dividend yield calculator is used by writers, developers, students, marketers and anyone else who needs the job done once without installing software. Common cases include:
Often the opposite. Yield rises when the price falls, and prices usually fall because the market doubts the dividend will last. Treat an unusually high yield as a question, not a bargain.
The current dividend divided by what you originally paid per share. It measures the income your money earns, as opposed to what a new buyer would get today.
Only if you enter a rate. Dividend taxation varies widely by country and by the type of account the shares are held in, so nothing is assumed.
