Which pack is actually cheaper, per unit.
Name, price, size. Size in the base unit: grams, millilitres, items or metres.
| Option | Price | Size | Price per unit | Against the cheapest |
|---|
Price Per Unit Calculator compares several pack sizes and tells you which is actually cheaper per unit. Shops are not obliged to make this easy, and the larger pack is not always the better value -- a fact the comparison makes visible in a second rather than in the aisle with a phone calculator.
Everything is reduced to one basis of your choosing: per kilogram, per hundred grams, per litre, per hundred millilitres, per item or per metre. Enter the sizes in the base unit -- grams rather than kilograms, millilitres rather than litres -- and the conversion to the comparison basis is done for you.
The saving is shown against the most expensive option as well as the cheapest, because that is the figure that tells you whether the decision matters. A two per cent spread across three pack sizes is not worth a trip; a forty per cent spread is, and both occur regularly on the same shelf.
This is arithmetic, not financial advice. It tells you what the numbers do; it cannot tell you whether a decision is right for your circumstances. Fees, taxes and local rules vary, so check anything that matters against the actual offer and speak to someone qualified before committing.
Everything is worked out inside your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded, logged or stored, which matters for the financial calculators in particular: the figures you put into them are nobody else's business.
The price per unit calculator is used by writers, developers, students, marketers and anyone else who needs the job done once without installing software. Common cases include:
The size in the base unit: grams, millilitres, items or metres. A 1.5 kg pack is 1500, and a 2 litre bottle is 2000.
Yes. Enter the total contents, so a six-pack of 330 ml cans is 1980, or compare per item by entering 6 and choosing per item.
Because pricing follows what people will pay, not arithmetic. Large packs are often promoted as value and priced above the small-pack unit rate.
