Distance Formula Calculator
Distance between two points in 2D or 3D.
The midpoint between two points, or the endpoint from a midpoint.
The second point, or the midpoint.
Leave at 1 for the midpoint. 2 gives the point a third of the way along.
Midpoint Calculator averages two points to find the one exactly between them, and works the problem backwards: given one end and the midpoint, it returns the other end. That second case comes up more often than the first in coursework, and the arithmetic -- twice the midpoint minus the known end -- is the part worth seeing written out.
The ratio field generalises the idea. A midpoint divides a line in the ratio one to one; setting the ratio to two gives the point a third of the way along, and so on. That is the section formula, and it is what you need for dividing a line into equal parts or placing something a set fraction of the way between two positions.
The distance between the points is shown alongside, since it is the other thing two coordinates determine and it is almost always wanted at the same time. The midpoint is half that distance from each end, which is a useful check on the answer.
The page shows its working, not just its answer. Where there is a formula it is printed with your own numbers substituted in, so you can check the result rather than take it on trust -- which is the difference between a calculator you can use for something that matters and one you cannot.
Everything runs inside your browser. What you type is never uploaded, never logged and never stored, and the calculator keeps working if your connection drops after the page has loaded.
Looking for something this does not cover? FreeToolsZone.org is more free browser-based tools, organised by job, and it is worth a look if midpoint calculator is only part of what you are working on.
The midpoint calculator is used by writers, developers, students, marketers and anyone else who needs the job done once without installing software. Common cases include:
The average of the two x values and the average of the two y values. That is all it is, which is why it extends to three dimensions unchanged.
Double the midpoint and subtract the known end, coordinate by coordinate. The calculator does it when you choose that option.
It finds the point dividing the segment in the ratio you give, measured from the first point. One to one is the midpoint.
If the midpoint calculator is not quite what you need, these other free tools solve closely related problems, and there are 16 more in geometry calculators.

Slope between two points, with angle and line equation.
Triangle sides, angles, area and type from any three facts.
Area and perimeter for ten shapes, with the formula and the working.
Least squares line with slope, intercept and r squared.
