FD Calculator works out what a fixed deposit matures at. The key input is the compounding frequency, and the reason it matters is that most banks compound fixed deposit interest quarterly while quoting a plain annual rate. Quarterly compounding at 7.5% is really 7.71% a year, and over five years that difference is substantial.
The simple-interest comparison is there to make the point concrete. The same deposit at the same quoted rate for the same term produces a visibly smaller amount without compounding, and the gap is the compounding. Some deposit products genuinely do pay simple interest, or pay the interest out rather than reinvesting it, so the comparison is a real choice rather than a demonstration.
Tax is an optional input because in most countries fixed deposit interest is taxed as ordinary income, often with tax deducted at source. The after-tax figure uses whatever rate you enter; it does not try to guess your bracket, your allowances or the rules where you live.
This is arithmetic, not financial advice. It tells you what the numbers do; it cannot tell you whether a decision is right for your circumstances. Fees, taxes and local rules vary, so check anything that matters against the actual offer and speak to someone qualified before committing.
Everything is worked out inside your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded, logged or stored, which matters for the financial calculators in particular: the figures you put into them are nobody else's business.
The fd calculator is used by writers, developers, students, marketers and anyone else who needs the job done once without installing software. Common cases include:
Quarterly is the usual default for fixed deposits. Some products pay monthly, and some pay the interest out instead of compounding it, which is closer to simple interest.
The rate that would give the same result compounded once a year. It is higher than the quoted rate whenever compounding happens more often, and it is the figure to compare between products.
No. Breaking a deposit early usually means a lower rate plus a penalty, and the terms differ by bank. Recalculate with the penalty rate to see the effect.
